Our handmade cejillas are surely beautiful and functional, but as they are often made with exotic hard woods and precious metals, they may need some extra care in order to keep them in good shape for years of enjoyment.
Please read this guide carefully and refer back to it as needed:
THE COLOUR OF YOUR CEJILLA:
• Made with natural materials, some imperfections add to the beauty of our cejillas and as years pass their colour and surface may start changing.
• The colour change will be especially apparent in brightly coloured woods such as purple heart and eventually your cejilla may start looking a more neutral brownish colour.
• To slow down this natural colour-changing process, when not in use, the cejillas should be stored in a dark and dry place, in a soft cloth pouch or a jewelry box. This will also help with the tarnishing of metals used in the decorations.
POLISHING & WAXING
• If and when you notice your metal inlays tarnishing or the finish of your cejilla starting to look dull, you can do two things.
1) Polish carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth and/or
2) Use Renaissance Wax (a high end micro-crystalline wax) to re finish and seal your cejilla
FIXING the STRING:
Sometimes, after heavy use or because of an accident you may have to change the string that connects the peg to cejilla. This is an easy process if you know what you're doing. You can use a G or B string from a nylon string guitar.
Here's a video explaining the process, from the Youtube channel Flamenco explained:
